TORONTO — AdWeek has recently published an article titled "This Canadian Sex Toy Ad Might Be the Best-Written Billboard of 2019," lauding a Womanizer advertisement in Toronto.
"Designed by Canadian agency The Garden, the billboard has so far survived three weeks alongside one of Toronto's busiest highways (the QEW at the 427), and the agency says that sets an endurance record for ads of its kind in North America," notes author David Griner, who interviewed Stephanie Keating, marketing manager of WOW Tech Group about the "often-unwritten rules of advertising that keep sex toy ads from appearing in public."
The bold ad invites the public to "Scream your own name," encouraging them to "Get it fast at PinkCherry.ca Canada's #1 Retailer." As for Keating, she observed, "When you are in the business of promoting women's sexual pleasure and all the benefits that go with that, you're used to being rejected." She pointed out that no matter the mediums they have explored, ranging from digital to podcasting, ads are censored even in the absence of suggestive content, while men's sexual-health ads are commonplace.
