Doc Johnson Featured in Amazon Docuseries 'Giant Beast'

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The ongoing efforts by Doc Johnson to validate and support its employees are the focus of a spotlight in “This Giant Beast That is the Global Economy,” an Amazon Prime docuseries now streaming.

The series, hosted by Kal Penn, and produced by Oscar-winning filmmaker Adam McKay, journalist Adam Davidson and actor Will Ferrell, puts a comedic spin on complex concerns and financial concepts as they relate to the global economy. Doc Johnson’s Chad Braverman and Anjani Siddartha are featured in the second episode, which explores the company’s reputation for valuing the contributions of its employees — many of whom have been with Doc Johnson for decades — and how this practice has been good business.

“Since Doc Johnson was featured ‘This Giant Beast That is the Global Economy,’ customers from all over the country have been calling and emailing in strong support of our company, and our commitment to making quality products in the United States,” Braverman said. “We are one of just a few pleasure products manufacturers who still make their own products in this country. Most companies, both large and small in our industry, have outsourced their manufacturing overseas. People definitely seem excited to hear that they can still buy products that are made in America. We’re truly very proud to (have been) making the majority of our pleasure products right here at our North Hollywood campus since we started in 1976.”

During a media tour to promote the docuseries, Penn expressed enthusiasm for Doc Johnson’s business practices. “They’ve retained many of their employees through most of their adult lives. It’s a family business, and they were saying, ‘Look, there’s a reason why we cultivate humans who we love.’ And the company is very well-liked, they’re very well-rated,” he told “The Kevin & Bean Show” on KROQ in Los Angeles.

Penn recalls being impressed by the sight of employees who were his parents’ age on the assembly line. They were “making dildos and putting them in molds and waving them up to dry,” he said. “This is actually pretty great because shouldn’t we actually live in this world where these things are not taboo and people are being paid fairly for their work? So it was nice to spend the day with them.”
