HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A new mainstream horror movie called “Cam” taps into the terror of being locked out of a cam account and having your persona and looks hijacked by an imposter.
Yesterday, producers of the technology-driven psychological thriller set in the world of camming released the trailer of the film, which will screen next Friday on Netflix. The trailer likely will offer a good old-fashioned scare to talent in the cam biz.
“Cam” follows a “FreeLiveGirls" broadcaster named Alice who wakes up one day to discover she’s been replaced on her channel with a replica of herself.
“As this copy begins to push the boundaries of Alice’s internet identity, the control that Alice has over her life and the men in it vanishes,” the movie’s synopsis said. “While she struggles to regain what she’s lost, she slowly finds herself drawn back to her show and to the mysterious person who has taken her place.”
“Cam" stars Madeline Brewer, Patch Darragh and Melora Walters. The script was written by Isa Mazzei, a former sex worker herself, while Daniel Goldhaber and Isabelle Link-Levy share story credit for collaborating. The movie is a co-authorship between Mazzei and Goldhaber and a first feature for them both.
