BURBANK, Calif. — As voters headed to the polls on Tuesday, Pornhub researchers were busy analyzing the adult site's traffic during the midterm elections.
Pornhub revealed the following stats on Thursday: When compared to an average day, traffic across the U.S., adjusted by time zone, increased by as much as 20 percent in the morning hours and remained above average until mid afternoon.
Further, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. traffic dipped as much as 5 percent below average for that time of day and dropped again from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. as people were watching the live election results come in, Pornhub said.
By gender, women had the biggest traffic increase by nearly 21 percent at 7 a.m. on election day. From 9 a.m. through mid-afternoon, traffic from male visitors was proportionately higher than usual compared to women. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., women saw the biggest traffic drop compared to an average day.
Visitors over the age of 35 saw their biggest traffic change at 6 a.m. by more than 17 percent compared to an average morning. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Millennials 18 to 34 saw a bigger change, with their traffic up over 24 percent at 9 a.m.
In the evening, traffic from all age groups balanced out, which may indicate that watching the results of this election were equally important to all ages.
Pornhub traffic from noon to 7 p.m. dipped the lowest in Indiana, Arkansas, Nebraska, Nevada and New York.
Traffic was up higher in Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia and Minnesota, with the largest increase of the day in the District of Columbia by more than 39 percent above average.
During the evening from 8 p.m. to midnight as election results were coming in, it was again Indiana where traffic was down lowest by 14 percent, followed by New York, Nebraska, Nevada and Arkansas. Visitors from the Washington D.C. saw a hike of traffic by 31 percent above normal for that time of the day.
