HBO's 'The Deuce' to End With 3rd Season

HBO's 'The Deuce' to End With 3rd Season

LOS ANGELES — Season three of HBO’s “The Deuce” will be its final one, according to its writer and producer, David Simon.

Simon revealed the show’s fate today in a tweet. The third and final season of “The Deuce” will air sometime in 2019.

“The Deuce,” which follows the story of the legalization and subsequent rise of the adult industry in New York’s Times Square from the early 1970s through the mid-1980s, launched its second season last month, delivering a slim 600,000 viewers for its first two episodes back.

Simon posted a photo of the show’s cast and statement on Twitter about the decision:

“We're always conjuring the last scene before we write the first. So much the better when we work for people who allow us to consistently plan, arc and execute as intended. Thanks, @HBO, for the third and final season renewal and the chance for #thedeuce to tell its full story,” Simon said.

While not adult entertainment programming per se, “The Deuce” depicted the world of vice.

Its cancellation after a third season comes on the heels of HBO’s decision earlier this year to wind down adult entertainment programming for all of its channels and streaming services.

Feature softcore erotic movies and specials, along with regular standards “Taxicab Confessions,” “Real Sex” and “Cathouse,” are no longer available to HBO subscribers.

HBO became part of AT&T in June after the company completed its acquisition of parent Time Warner Inc.
