X-Rated 'Cosmo After Dark' Snap Channel Goes Dark

VENICE, Calif. — Cosmopolitan Magazine has put the brakes on its "Cosmo After Dark" Snapchat channel after just one edition.

Criticism from parents was the deciding factor, particularly in light that there was nothing for them to do to turn it off on their kids’ devices if they already weren’t “age-gated,” according to ProtectYoungEyes.com, which blew up the story on social media.

Through Snapchat's content guidelines, "Cosmo After Dark" was age-gated, meaning a user couldn't access it if their account was registered as under the age of 18.

"Cosmo After Dark" was available through Snapchat Discover and featured explicit discussion of sex and other content aimed at adults.

Cosmo called it “an X-rated weekly edition that goes live every Friday at 6 p.m. and is exclusively dedicated to all things hot and horny.”

In a statement after pulling the plug, the media company said, "Cosmopolitan has always been known for empowering women in all aspects of their lives. With a highly popular Snapchat Discover channel, Cosmo launched an age-gated product on the platform for adults over the age of 18, which it is discontinuing after a pilot edition.”
