WASHINGTON — President Trump acknowledged on Thursday that his longtime attorney Michael Cohen had represented him in what he called the "crazy Stormy Daniels deal” in which Cohen paid $130,000 to buy her silence.
That silence came just before the 2016 election. Trump's comments came today in an interview with “Fox and Friends.”
It was the first time Trump has conceded his connection to Cohen's deal with Daniels, who says she had a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006.
Daniels sued last month to release herself from a non-disclosure agreement that she signed in 2016, arguing that it was void because Trump never signed it. She has offered to return the $130,000
During “Fox and Friends,” Trump distanced himself from Cohen, whose office, apartment and hotel room were raided by FBI officials earlier this month.
“Michael is a businessman. It doesn’t have to do with me …. He also practices law … I would say the big thing is his business,” Trump said. “I have many attorneys. Sadly, I have so many attorneys you wouldn’t believe it.”
Daniels’ attorney, Michael Avenatti, told the Associated Press on Thursday, that Trump's comments are "going to add considerable momentum to our effort to depose the president and place him under oath in an effort to discover which version of the facts is accurate."
