Stormy Daniels' Attorney: 'Time to Buckle Up' After Missed Deadline

WASHINGTON — The deadline has come and gone, and now Stormy Daniels’ attorney is saying it’s “time to buckle up.”

A lawyer for President Trump ignored a Tuesday noon deadline on Daniel’s offer to return $130,000 in a “hush agreement” so that she can speak freely about an alleged affair with Trump, according to Daniel’s attorney, Michael Avenatti.

Avenatti later tweeted: “The president and [Trump counsel Michael] Cohen have purposely ignored our settlement offer, thus doubling down on their efforts to muzzle [Daniels] and prevent her from telling the American people what happened. Time to buckle up.”

Daniels, who sat down for an interview with Anderson Cooper last week for CBS’ “60 Minutes,” could face a $1 million penalty if she breaks a nondisclosure agreement she earlier made with an affiliated entity of Trump’s.

The interview has yet to be broadcast and an air date hasn’t been disclosed.

CBS News President David Rhodes, according to Variety, said Tuesday that the interview is on its way but that more journalistic work needs to be done on the story.

Rhodes statement on the Daniels interview was the first time CBS publicly confirmed it had interviewed the adult superstar.

Rhodes also noted that he could not figure out what the basis would be for any legal action by Trump's legal team to prevent the interview from airing.

Trump's lawyers reportedly were considering seeking an injunction to stop it.

"I haven't seen such an injunction, and I can't imagine what the basis for that would be," Rhodes said. "The encounter between Anderson Cooper and [Daniels] was accompanied also by conversations with attorneys, documents were provided, and so we have to run all that down before it runs."
