Mia Malkova's Director Faces Backlash Over Docudrama in India

HYPERABAD, India — Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma is facing the wrath in India over his controversial internet docudrama “God, Sex and Truth,” featuring adult star Mia Malkova.

After drawing the ire of a number of women’s groups that have been outraged over the video’s “bold and objectionable content,” police have gotten involved.

Over this past weekend, Varma was interrogated for about three-and-half hours by police, who are investigating obscenity charges, as well as breaking a statute involving insulting the modesty of a woman for his role in allegedly making personal but demeaning comments against women activists during the debate of the movie on some TV channels.

As a result, police seized Varma's laptop and arrested him without a warrant, ordering him to appear before them once again next week.

According to India Today, the All-India Democratic Women Association and BJP Mahila Morcha, among other groups, have made formal complaints to authorities. They said Varma has portrayed women as sex objects and promoted pornography with “God, Sex and Truth.”

If the case goes the way of those groups that complained, the Bollywood director could face prison for allegedly shooting Malkova nude in his home country, where porn production is outlawed.

Varma denied the accusation, claiming he filmed Malkova in Poland and the U.K. and not at a five-star hotel in Hyperabad as the groups suggest.

Media reports, however, disputed Varma’s account of where the video was shot. And that has placed Varma on the offensive.

Today and yesterday, Varma took to Twitter to post a message that disclosed his lawyers will do the talking from now on.

"People blaming me for saying derogatory things called me PERVERT, PSYCHO, TERRORIST and I should be SHOT. Anyways my lawyers are initiating the necessary action for law to take its own course and I am further not going to speak on matters under investigation," he posted on Twitter.
