FSC Hires Scarlett Sin as Social Work, Health Systems Specialist

LOS ANGELES — Free Speech Coalition (FSC) has announced its appointment of Scarlett Sin as a Social Work and Health Systems Specialist.

According to the organization, Sin, a member of the sex worker community with a Masters Degree in Social Work, and a BA in Psychology and Queer Studies from Cal State Northridge, will focus on initiatives related to performer health and safety.

“Scarlett will be an important advocate for performers and performer health issues within the organization,” said FSC Executive Director Eric Paul Leue. “In addition to her credentials, she has extensive field experience in HIV prevention and awareness, mental health outreach, and health rights advocacy for at-risk populations.”

Sin is a state certified HIV Test/Counselor trained in Blood Borne Pathogens, and has worked with health care systems such as Kaiser Permanente and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), to community based agencies such as Friends Research Institute (FRI) on projects ranging from expanding services and coverage to overseeing HIV testing and case management with a particular emphasis on vulnerable populations such as MSM and transgender women.

Sin will work to solicit and synthesize feedback from performers on the PASS testing protocols, coordinate and analyze studies related to performer health, and work with outside organizations that provide healthcare, mental health services, rights advocacy and other resources for sex workers.

“FSC provides a unique opportunity for me to bring my educational and social work background in parallel with my years of working in multiple dimensions of sex work to bear on behalf of the communities I am both a part of and continue to fight for,” said Sin. “I very much look forward to opening dialogues with stakeholders and new community partners to enhance, expand, and strengthen the services and advocacy FSC has to offer, and building upon the legacy of this invaluable organization.”

Sin will report to Ian O’Brien, FSC’s Director of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs.

In the new year, FSC plans to add additional specialists to the organization, including one focused on pleasure product regulation and legislation.
