HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — High schools should provide free condoms to students, according to a new study sponsored by AdamAndEve.com.
Asking more than 1,000 adults if they felt high schools should provide free condoms to students, the overwhelming majority said yes, Dr. Kat Van Kirk, resident sexologist for Adam & Eve said.
About 77 percent of the respondents believed that high schools should provide condoms to students upon request, while 23 percent did not, she said.
In a surprise to Kirk, 82 percent of the females vs. 71 percent of the males felt that condoms should be provided to high schoolers.
“While studies show that more high school students are refraining from having sex, it’s important for those who do to be responsible,” Kirk said. “I’m pleased to see that adults are being open-minded regarding teens and sex. It’s important to note that providing teens with options is not the same thing as encouraging the behavior or granting permission for sex.”
The web-based survey, conducted by an independent third-party survey company, involved more than 1,000 American adults age 18 and up. It was sponsored by Adam & Eve to study sexual preferences and practices.
