In the first of two huge parties this week alone to help raise money to support her ongoing fight against leukemia, the adult industry traveled to the iconic intersection of Hollywood and Vine to pack the club Forbidden City Thursday night for the Spring Porn Bash.
According to All Media Play, the event raised approximately $40,000, including a $10,000 donation from SexZ Pictures, and all of the door charges, 20 percent of the bar tabs, and other money gathered from a date auction and miscellaneous donations.
Besides the myriad fundraising parties to help Hunter, adult industry members also have started the Hunter CARE Foundation.
All Media Play President Jeff Mullen and Red Light District's Debbie Schwarz organized the Spring Porn Bash. According to Schwarz, the foundation will not only be a full-fledged non-profit organization, but it will also be around for a long time to help industry members who need it.
"This will be for anyone in the industry who gets sick and doesn't have health insurance," she told XBIZ, adding that industry members often have difficulty getting health insurance.
"If you do manage to get [health insurance], you pay a lot for it," she said. "And a lot of times, people in the business will make sure their kids are covered before they get themselves covered."
The Hunter CARE Foundation website will soon have means for people to make online donations, but until then, donations can be made either by emailing Schwarz at Debella56@Socal.rr.com, or mailing checks directly to Red Light District, 20339 Nordhoff Street, Chatsworth, Calif., 91311. Address all letters to attention: Debbie.
A portion of proceeds from this Saturday's Kiss and Tell Party at the Playboy Mansion will also help fund Hunter's treatment.
Hunter was recently diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia lymphoma. She's currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment at a southern California hostpital. She has no health insurance.
A smiling Hunter arrived with an entourage of friends and supporters, her hair bright pink. Other stars and industry professionals praised Hunter's strength and the industry's solidarity in supporting her.
"The adult entertainment industry is filled with great people," All Media Play's Jeff Mullen told XBIZ. "We are very happy to see so many turn out for Nicki’s party, and we were honored to organize this with [Schwarz]."
Adult star Eva Angelina agreed.
"It's situations like these that show us we're a real family," she told XBIZ. "She's stuck in a situation she can't get out of, and it's so sad that she can't get out of it. It's really important that we all come together."
