CDGirls.com is relatively new to the DVD business, having produced approximately 30 titles, all of which are available on its site and distributed by American Xcess.
The studio released a second Blu-ray title, “Luxury Lovers: Lesbian Edition,” also in January and is planning its third title on Blu-ray for May release.
CDGirls.com Chief Technology Officer Manny Ulele told XBIZ that while adult retail demand has not caught up with the supply of titles in high-definition, he feels that producing content on Blu-ray disc positions his new DVD brand at the forefront of the hi-def future of adult content delivery.
“We had planned to release the Jenna Haze title on Blu-ray for a long time before it actually came out,” Ulele said. “For an adult production to look good in hi-def you need to spend money on the right sets, wardrobe and talent — this is a big production.”
CDGirls.com has shot adult content for its website in hi-def since 2005 and has more than 100 online videos in its hi-def library. The company celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
Ulele said CDGirls.com had “no problem” finding a Blu-ray replicator because “anyone will do anything if you throw enough money at them.”
While the barrier of entry into the Blu-ray market is high, Ulele said he opted to go without copyright protection on his discs saving the company more than $6,000 per title. XBIZ previously reported that hackers have stripped the DRM copy protection on both next-gen formats.
“We’re going to keep releasing titles in both Blu-ray and HD DVD for all new releases,” Ulele said. “The profit margin is so high, we’re going to make our money back one way or the other. This is our plan for the future. We feel by releasing titles on both formats is the way for us to break into the DVD market.”
CDGirls.com produces one new DVD release per month, which is available on Blu-ray, HD DVD, standard definition and WMV HD Media.
