OC Cash Affiliate and Program Manager Chris Stewart told XBIZ that the decision to offer viral videos was an easy one.
"Nobody's done it yet," Stewart said. "I think [viral marketing] is necessary in this business. The mainstream has attempted to use YouTube and sites like it to promote themselves, and we wanted to use this same idea with affiliate IDs to track sales."
Stewart said that OC Cash VP of Marketing Jay Quinlan led a company-wide effort to add the viral marketing tools.
Webmasters can find the viral videos under "Ad Tools" in the OC Cash affiliate area. The company is offering about 70 videos initially, including static and rotating choices for most of their sites.
The player itself includes embed code that lets surfers add it to virtually any website, and no matter where the player appears, the affiliate's tracking code will carry over. Webmasters can choose from four different partnership plans and two destinations for their traffic.
Stewart said that although webmasters won't be able to upload their own content to OC Cash's viral video engine at first, he didn't rule out the possibility.
"We haven't discussed it yet," he said. "But if the videos comply with 2257 regulations, we could do it. The affiliates would have to use our content to promote our sites, of course."
Along with an assortment of hardcore viral video clips, OC Cash is also offering a smaller amount of nonhardcore clips for use on sites like MySpace and message boards that prohibit explicit content.
The video player is compatible with Wordpress, Autoblogger and standard HTML pages.
Assuming the new viral videos work well on OC Cash, Stewart said that he and his company plan to add similar marketing tools to the FreshChecks.com affiliate program and GotSex.com, a review website that Stewart said should be fully operational in the next month.
