APAC to Discuss Racism in Adult

LOS ANGELES — Sun., Dec. 4, from 8-10 p.m., the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee (APAC) will forgo its traditional meeting format to discuss racial discrimination in the adult entertainment industry and to provide potential solutions for diversification.

APAC has requested performers who wish to share their encounters to draft a statement to be read at the December meeting. The statement should include both observations of racial discrimination and methods of responding to and preventing further inequality.

These statements will be read without audience interruption.

According to an APAC spokesperson, the purpose of this meeting is to plan a better environment for all performers.

“As the subject matter is very sensitive and emotional, everyone is asked to stay focused and refrain from unhelpful statements or outbursts,” the spokesperson explains. “Moderators are tasked to prevent aimless debate and provide a place for performers to respectfully share opinions while being respected in return.”

This discussion is the first of a planned series of performer-led conversations dedicated to improving the adult film industry and community.

“In the wake of the truly historical defeat of Prop 60, adult film workers should not doubt the power of their voices and what can be accomplished with a united front,” the spokesperson added. “While performers are invited to provide a vision for equality based on their personal experiences with racial discrimination, all are welcome to listen and brainstorm viable options for inclusion.”

Performers interested in speaking must RSVP to APAC.
