LOS ANGELES — Director Will Ryder looks back on the 1980s with his parody “Not Traci Lords XXX '80s Superstars Reborn.” Released by X-Play and distributed by Pulse, the film features contemporary performers as adult stars of the 1980s.
"A movie like this had never been made," said Art Koch of NightMoves Magazine, which deemed “Not Traci Lords XXX Superstars Reborn” an awards show contender.
"We are extremely happy to see history has a good chance of repeating itself," Ryder said. "It's time to have some fun; that's what the iconic porn stars of the 1980s were all about, and our movie takes you back to 1984. The fact that NightMoves has predicted so many movies that would go on to commercial and critical award success such as ‘Not the Bradys XXX,’ ‘Not the Jersey Boys XXX,’ ‘Not the Wizard of Oz’ is why we're so excited about the prospects of award nominations and victories."
“Not Traci Lords XXX '80s Superstars Reborn” stars Lucy Tyler as Lords, Carter Cruise as Samantha Strong, Cameron Dee as Amber Lynn, Courtney Shea as Ginger Lynn, Zoey Monroe as Bunny Bleu, Mia Austin as Nina DePonca, Angelina Chung as Kristara Barrington, Ashley Graham as Nina Hartley, Gaia as Mai Lin, and Natasha Vega as Christy Canyon.
The film’s male performers include Tyler Nixon as Tom Byron, Richie Calhoun as John Holmes, Kurt Lockwood as Jerry Butler, Jay Smooth as Jeff Styker, Eric John as Eric Edwards, Anthony Rosano as director Henri Pachard, Rick Garcia as director Freddie Lincoln, and Tom Byron as talent agent Jim South.
Misty Stone, Tom Byron and Ron Jeremy narrate the film, with director Roy Karch serving as an historical consultant.
"If you want to see what the porn business was like, especially when it was often times illegal to produce or sell, then this is a must-see movie," X-Play Co-Producer Scott David said. "This will easily be a major contender for best parody. I'm actually pretty surprised I was still able to think up something new that the porn biz had never done before."
Ryder, who scored his first adult film soundtrack in 1983, said of the advent of VHS tape, "This was an amazing achievement, as it ushered in a new era of porn consumption, allowing the viewer to watch sex movies in the privacy of their own home. Stop and think about that for a just a moment.”
"Before this golden age era, you had to sit in a big 900-seat theater back in 1977 with eleven creepy men wearing raincoats all jerking off in unison,” Ryder said. “It was a terrible way to get off. I'm really proud of this movie, and I think everybody in the industry should watch it, especially the new girls. I'm also really grateful to the legends of the 1980s for paving the way for everybody in the business today and for being so awesome."
