CARSON CITY, Nev. — Dennis Hof, owner of the Moonlite Bunny Ranch and six other legal brothels in Nevada, is speaking out on the recent sex trafficking-related arrests in connection with the ad website Backpage.com.
Hof said that while he supports law enforcement aggressively enforcing laws against underage sex trafficking, he believes that law enforcement in the United States would have an easier time doing its job if adult prostitution were legal in all 50 states.
"The only rational solution is to legalize prostitution nationwide, and using the Bunny Ranch brothel as the model for how regulated, safe and secure bordellos can serve the needs of working girls and their customers alike," Hof said.
The illegality of adult prostitution in most parts of the United States, Hof said, encourages problems ranging from sexually transmitted diseases to predatory pimping and underage sex trafficking.
"If all you do is shut down a website, it just results in the pimps and girls going to another website— or even worse, turning to dangerous streetwalking hooking,” Hof said. “Government officials have to offer a legal, feasible path for adult sex providers to earn a living. Many have families, are going to college and supporting loved ones. My brothel business model puts the vile pimps out of business, stops underage girls from working illegally and ends sex trafficking, period."
