SAN FRANCISCO — State senate candidate Scott Wiener has announced plans to speak against Proposition 60 at San Francisco’s Folsom Street Fair on Sunday.
Wiener, a San Francisco supervisor, said that the initiative could push the adult film industry out of California and is a “sham.”
“It won't lead to a single additional condom being used in adult films and won't do anything to improve public health,” Wiener said. “Instead, Prop 60 will simply push the adult film industry underground or out of state, thus making adult film performers less safe and less healthy.”
"Prop 60 isn't based in science or public health," Wiener said. "Rather, it's based on outdated misinformation that condoms are the only way to prevent HIV."
Weiner will speak at the Folsom Street Fair near Folsom and 10th streets between 1 p.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday.
Numerous bipartisan groups have urged voters to reject the initiative, including the California Democratic Party, the California Republican Party, the California Libertarian Party, San Francisco Young Democrats, San Francisco AIDS Foundation, Equality California, Transgender Law Center, the St. James Infirmary, ESPLERP, The Harvey Milk and the Alice B. Toklas Democratic Clubs, AIDS Project Los Angeles, Los Angeles LGBT Center, the Free Speech Coalition. the Adult Performer Advocacy Committee (APAC) and others.
