LOS ANGELES — NakedSword Filmworks (NSFW), the independent film arm of gay adult pioneer NakedSword.com, has picked up Javier Ferreiro’s “Alfa” following the film’s screening at Outfest Los Angeles.
The film will debut online, via NSFilmworks.com and NakedSword.com in August.
Shot in Cuba, “Alfa” tells the story of Alfa Mendez, a Cuban gay porn actor, who returns to the set for his first day of filming without his longtime partner, Yerry.
Ferreiro shot the film while a student at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión outside of Havana.
“We’re proud to bring “Alfa” to the NSFW audience,” said Tim Valenti, founder of NSFW and president of NakedSword. “Despite the political progress we’ve made in recent years, stories about LGBTQ sex and sexuality are still regarded as difficult by traditional studios.
“As a gay adult company, we can be fearless in the topics we take up and the films we broadcast.”
The deal was negotiated by Adam Baran, a former Outfest programmer who has served as curator for NSFW since its launch in March.
A separate NSFW Original Production, Brontez Purnell’s “100 Boyfriends Mixtape,” premiered at a sold-out Outfest screening on July 9.
Two other films secured by NSFW earlier in the 2016, “Hattie Goes Cruising” and “Doors Cut Down” (“En Malas Compañias”) also screened at the festival.
“Outfest is one of the most important outlets in the country for LGBTQ film,” Valenti said. “We’re thrilled to have had such a strong showing by NSFW on our first year.”
