NEW YORK — Nadia Ali is the subject of a two-part Facebook video interview for Refinery29.com.
The Pakistani adult star, who caused controversy in her home country by performing in a traditional Islamic head scarf, has received death threats for her work in the past year. Ali still identifies as a Muslim.
“Working in the adult industry was about me being open with my sexuality, but obviously, the world sees it differently,” Ali said. “I was banned from Pakistan not for starring in porn movies, but for wearing the religious head scarf and other Islamic wear — which I did because the companies who hired me told me this would help me stand out from the crowd. I still follow the Muslim religion, and still pray because it’s a part of what I do. But it doesn’t define me.”
