Woodhull Partners With Widener University For Event on Sexuality and Aging

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Woodhull Freedom Foundation has joined forces with Widener University for an Aug. 4 event that will address sexuality and aging.

The Sexuality and Aging Training Institute will take place during the seventh annual Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit, to be held Aug. 4-7 at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, Va. near Washington, D.C. The Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit is described as a "conference focused on sexual freedom as a fundamental human right in the U.S."

"Today, one in three Americans is age 50 or older," said Ricci Levy, president and CEO of the Woodhull Freedom Foundation. "By 2030, one in five will be 65 or older. How can we protect the sexual rights of older adults, when prevailing myths tell us they aren't sexual any longer? The Summit's Sexuality and Aging Training Institute will help attendees learn to dispel these myths, while learning about exciting developments being made in research at the intersection of sexuality and aging."

2016's Sexuality and Aging Training Institute includes nine presentations, ranging from LGBT senior community building to nurturing connections through healthy touch.

Keynote speakers for this year include Mandy Carter and Roberta R. Greene.

Carter, a Nobel Prize nominee, is a long-time LGBT activist and a member of the Obama National LGBT Steering and Policy Committee as well as co-founder of Southerners On New Ground (SONG) and a past Woodhull Vicky Award recipient.

Greene was a gerontology and social work professor at the University of Texas at Austin before retirement. Greene is the author of 13 books and numerous research articles and is a recipient of the 2004 NASW Pioneer Award and the AGE-SW 2005 Career Achievement Award.

The program, open to everyone —  not just professionals —  will be full of new information, fresh perspectives and clear paths toward a happier, healthier future for the aging populations."
