NEW YORK — Rebel Lynn will appear on "Weird Medicine with Dr. Steve" this Sat., Apr. 30 at 2 p.m. EST. The adult star will be discussing her fibromyalgia on the medical podcast.
"Fibromyalgia is not a flu or a broken bone, but it can bring up symptoms of both," Lynn said. "And it doesn't just go away in time. It's something I live with day in and day out."
According to the Mayo Clinic, fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain, accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way the brain processes pain signals.
Symptoms sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection, or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time, with no single triggering event.
Women are much more likely to develop fibromyalgia than men. Many people who have fibromyalgia also have tension headaches, joint disorders, anxiety, and depression. While there is no cure for fibromyalgia, a variety of medications can help control symptoms. Exercise, relaxation and stress-reduction measures also may help.
"The best way to live with it is to actually live," Lynn said. "You cannot let it get completely in the way of your everyday life."
