Skyler Nicole Discusses Racism in Mic.com Article

LOS ANGELES — Adult star Skyler Nicole recently shared her views on racism within the adult industry in an article that was published on the mainstream site Mic.com.

The article, titled “There’s a Serious Racism Problem in the Porn Industry,” was written by Los Angeles-based adult industry expert, author and sociologist Dr. Chauntelle Tibbals.

In the Mic.com article, Tibbals quoted Nicole, who is African-American, as saying that in the adult industry, “Black women do not get half as much credit as they should. We don't get recognized in (trade magazines). You’ll never see a black girl's photo posted at (an industry trade show). Nor will we ever take home an award.”

In Tibbals’ article, Nicole discussed the recent controversy surrounding an e-mail blast from a talent agency that offered a reduced rate for Black History Month.

In the e-mail, the agency said, “February is Black History Month, and all of this month, our talent will be doing IR BG scenes at their lowest rate.”

Nicole said, “I'd like to thank Dr. Chauntelle for giving me the platform for my voice to be heard, and I hope it helps open up further discussion about racism in the industry.”

Nicole has worked with a long list of studios, including Reality Kings, Bang Bros, the DogFart Network, Penthouse, TeamSkeet, MZero Tolorance, Devils Films, New Sensations and Girlfriend Films.

Tibbals is the author of the book “Exposure: A Sociologist Explores Sex, Society, and Adult Entertainment.”
