Sechrest told XBIZ that he'll be testing out new material at various small venues this month, using topics ranging from Liza Minelli to the perils of dating.
"I'm using the insanity of the people sitting across the dinner table from me," Sechrest said. "I just pray none of them show up to the shows."
Sechrest also said he is meeting with comedienne and recent GAYVN Awards host, Kathy Griffin, this week for a special comedy "master class." He said the two met at the GAYVN Awards and bonded over "mutual feelings" for entertainment personality Ryan Seacrest.
"[Kathy] was a hugely motivating factor in getting me off my ass and on stage," Sechrest said. "She's really groundbreaking; I know she says she's D-List, but she's A-List to us!"
Sechrest said he's not terribly nervous to be on stage and that it's "just amazing" that he has the opportunity to learn some stage tips from Griffin before his onstage comedy debut.
"Sometimes I think it's crazy, and other times [doing the show] seems very natural, very normal," Sechrest said.
Sechrest's Howl at the Moon performance will start at 9 p.m. He also will perform a comedy/cabaret act at M Bar April 24 at 10 p.m.
