Oculus Rift VR Headset Priced at $599

SAN FRANCISCO — Oculus nailed down the price for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset today.

The Rift headset will be priced at $599, and also will include a sensor, Oculus remote, cables and Xbox One Controller.

Shipping as early as March 28, the VR headset works with a PC with at least 8GB of RAM, an Nvidia GTX 970-equivalent graphics card and an Intel i5 processor to power the Rift.

“People have been dreaming about immersive high-end VR for decades, and we’re thrilled to share Rift with you this March,” the company said in a post today.

“[Oculus] Touch will ship in the second half of the year and will unlock entirely new interactions that let people take their VR experiences further than ever before,” the company said in reference to upcoming hand controllers that work with Rift. “When you pre-order Rift, you’ll also secure your place in line for Touch pre-orders later this year.”

Preorders for Rift headsets started today here. The preorder site includes a downloadable Rift compatibility tool for Windows users to find out if it works for them.

Oculus is initially shipping to the following countries: Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, U.K. and U.S.

Bundles that include an Oculus-ready PC and a Rift will be available for pre-order in February starting at $1,499.

Rift will also be available in at select retailers starting in April.

At the 2016 XBIZ Show next week, experts in the VR space will discuss the platform and how porn fits in with consumers at a workshop titled “VR Porn: Technologies, Solutions & Realities.”

The XBIZ Show workshop, slated for Thursday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m., will feature Fabian Grey of AliceX, Todd Glider from BaDoink, HoloFilm's Anna Lee and Ela Darling of VRTube.xxx as panelists.
