WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The long-awaited Oculus Rift virtual reality headset will be available for preorder starting tomorrow at 8 a.m. (PST).
So far, its manufacturer, Oculus, hasn’t disclosed exactly when the headset will be available or how much it will cost.
But the company has acknowledged that the headset is on track for a “Q1 2016” scheduled release.
The headset works with a PC with at least 8GB of RAM, an Nvidia GTX 970-equivalent graphics card and an Intel i5 processor to power the Rift.
Oculus said in October that the consumer edition will be priced more than the $350 development kits but still “in that ballpark.”
Today at 6 p.m. (PST), Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will be answering questions about the latest developments going on with the VR headset rollout in a Reddit AMA.
For more than a year, VR technology has been on the minds of those in the adult entertainment industry looking for the next platform to revolutionize the way its consumers view content.
As a result, numerous adult content producers have committed resources to the VR platform and are now shooting for the masses.
At the 2016 XBIZ Show next week, experts in the VR space will discuss the platform and how porn fits in with consumers at a workshop titled “VR Porn: Technologies, Solutions & Realities.”
The XBIZ Show workshop, slated for Thursday, Jan. 14, at 1 p.m., will feature Fabian Grey of AliceX, Todd Glider from BaDoink, HoloFilm's Anna Lee and Ela Darling of VRTube.xxx as panelists.
