TightFit Productions Vice President of Sales Joanie Lee told XBIZ that the production costs of replicating double-sided discs are the same as standard definition ones, so the company expects a seamless transition onto the new medium. However, the retail price of the new discs will be slightly higher.
The first TightFit Productions’ movie to get the double-sided treatment is the Master-Dominic-directed “Punk Rock Punishment,” which releases in early April.
Oren Cohen, president of TightFit, believes his company’s approach to aggressively utilize new technology positions it at the forefront of content delivery.
“Being one of the only adult companies around right now that understands and embraces this new technology is a plus,” Cohen said. “Almost our entire library has been shot in broadcast [quality] HD. This is just another way we can bring value and quality to our customers by taking advantage of our existing knowledge of HD workflow and post-production. Hopefully this will make the HD DVD format more accessible to the general populous while bringing the rest of the industry on board [to choose HD DVD] over Blu-ray.”
The company also announced that it has secured the services of Direct To Disc, a service that enables customers to save entire video files of TightFit’s movies onto their computers and burn them onto blank DVDs that are playable on any standard unit. The download-to-burn option will be featured on the TightFit website.
Lee said new releases would be available via download-to-burn shortly after the DVD release date. TightFit expects to roll out the next-gen service in the first week of March.
