This event marks the first time an adult movie will be available for purchase on DVD and on the new download-to-burn service allowing customers to download an entire movie onto their computers and burn it onto a disc to watch on any standard DVD player.
All Adult Channel’s download-to-burn version of “Kim Kardashian Superstar” is an exact replica of the movie being distributed by Vivid Entertainment.
Through its proprietary software program, FluxDVD, that simultaneously compresses and decompresses the file as it goes through the pipe, All Adult Channel customers on a fast Internet connection can download and burn the entire movie in about two hours. The company allows only one burn per purchase.
“We’re really making Internet history here,” All Adult Channel’s director of marketing and merchandising Lawrence Novitch told XBIZ. “The simultaneous release of the Kardashian DVD and download-to-burn option is a huge deal for us.”
The webmaster partners of All Adult Cash, the affiliate program for All Adult Channel, can promote “Kim Kardashian Superstar” through the company’s customizable or co-branded stores. Affiliates have the ability to create a white-labeled store for the exclusive promotion of the Kardashian video.
Additionally, All Adult Channel is offering customers a three-day trial with unlimited minutes for customers who pre-order the Kardashian movie before the Feb. 28 release date.
Both versions of the movie, DVD and download, will be sold for the same retail price of $39.95.
Vivid Entertainment’s national sales director Howard Levine said the same pricing was important because Vivid didn’t want to undercut its brick-and-mortar and online retailers.
“I personally think download-to-burn is the evolution of mail order,” Levine told XBIZ. “While the online version doesn’t come with the bonus disc or the original packaging, everyone will be more than pleased with the quality; it’s the same as if you popped in the DVD.”
Novitch said the Internet release of “Kim Kardashian Superstar” could be the title that jumpstarts the format.
“This release of this particular title could make download-to-burn a real alternative to ordering the DVD online or going to the store,” Novitch said. “The first month with Vivid was huge, but now we need first time customers to repeat. This release could signal a change in the marketplace.”
A link to All Adult Channel’s download-to-burn Kardashian theater will be linked to the mini-site Vivid created to promote the movie, KimKSuperstar.com. Levine said the site has received more than 800,000 emails from people seeking previews of the video since it launched.
