General Availability for .porn, .adult Domains Starts Tomorrow

MIAMI — Starting tomorrow, anyone can buy a .porn or .adult domain name.

ICM Registry — the company that operates top-level domains .porn, and .adult, as well as the existing .xxx and the upcoming .sex in the fall — offered two initial sunrise periods prior to today. ICM included one for trademark holders and the second for those who already owned a .xxx domain who then could purchase the same .porn and .adult domain before general availability.

Reports earlier this week pegged the number of .porn and .adult names registered during the various sunrise periods — 7,500 registered domain names for .porn and 7,000 for .adult. The registry’s .xxx currently has 103,000 domain names.

As for pricing, GoDaddy today is pre-selling .porn domain names starting at $119 per domain, with a sale price starting at $83.99. United Domains is planning to sell .adult names at $79 starting tomorrow.

In related news, ICM Registry told TheDomains that it recently sold $600,000 in premium .porn domain names to an existing customer, in an all cash transaction; details will be revealed when the sites launch.
