WASHINGTON — A trade group with members including AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. asked a federal court to toss net neutrality rules announced in February.
US Telecom filed suit today at U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Court for the Federal District, arguing the Federal Communications Commission rules, set to commence June 12, are "arbitrary and capricious" and violate federal law.
The rules change the legal classification of wired and wireless broadband, treating it as a more highly regulated telecommunications service in an attempt to ensure that providers don't discriminate against any legal content, including porn, flowing through their networks to consumers.
US Telecom also is considering asking the court for a temporary stay in the rules until the case is decided, he said. Other suits advocating agains the new rules are expected.
The new rules were posted today in the Federal Register.
