LOS ANGELES — Will Ryder told XBIZ he’ll begin shooting the first episodic series of his career this month for Adam & Eve Pictures.
Titled “Sons & Daughters,” the original soap opera will follow interwoven families in a fictional town in America. Ryder said the shoot will create eight 30-minute episodes to air on AdamandEveTV.com. All the episodes will then be offered in broadcast format and in a DVD set.
“Each episode is self contained, meaning there will be a beginning, middle and end so they will be able to be viewed separately,” said Ryder, the 2015 XBIZ Director of the Year - Parody winner for "Not the Jersey Boys XXX." “There will be some type of connection or as they used to call it, ‘a cliffhanger,’ to get people to watch the next episode.”
Ryder said the families in “Sons & Daughters” would be loosely related either through friendship or business and the controversy would center on the parents and their college-aged offspring. The series begins with a college president with political ambitions who is attempting to keep his family and career together in the face of corruption, lies and cheating that are threatening to tear it all apart.
“It’s not necessarily going to be an incestuous type of movie, but there will be a lot of sexual conduct between friends and neighbors,” the director added.
For Ryder and his producing partner Scott David who are known for their outrageous parodies, this kind of narrative is new territory.
“What makes this so exciting is it’s quite a challenge to write a succinct story in a 30-minute timeframe complete with sexual dalliances. It will be whole new experience for Scott and I as co-producers,” Ryder said. “It’s a new era of adult entertainment. People’s attention spans are shorter. They want to get their entertainment in small chunks. This is another way to take adult entertainment into a new era of delivery.”
Ryder continued, “We’re also excited to work with Adam & Eve because we’ve had so much success with them. We had recent success with ‘Grease XXX’ and we’ve had long-term success with ‘Flight Attendants’ and ‘Not Bewitched XXX’.”
The female cast for “Sons & Daughters” at press time included Holly Heart, Elizabeth Bentley, Anya Ivy, Nikki Daniels, Sarah Vandella, Sara Luvv, Alexa Gold and Josie Jagger; the guys include Steven St. Croix, Tyler Nixon, Seth Gamble, Ryan Mclane, Nick Manning, Alec Knight and Chad White.
Ryder & Co. are also in the final stages of post-production with “Love, Sex & TV News” for Adam & Eve, which will release the movie in June. The story follows the power struggle of a Los Angeles TV news station and the sex and backstabbing that takes place behind the scenes.
“It’s almost done and it’s absolutely fantastic. It plays more like a movie that could be on Showtime or HBO than anything we’ve done before,” Ryder said, noting it’s the first time they’ve shot with a camera jib since “Britney Rears 3: Britney Gets Shafted” in 2006.
“It adds to the cinematic vibe. The movie is interesting, fast-paced and funny."
“Love, Sex and TV News” features performances by Skin Diamond, Janice Griffith, Carmen Caliente, Ivy and Vandella with Manning, Gamble, Knight, White and Frank Bukkwyd.
“I’ve always wanted to work with Janice Griffith and to work with Skin in a bigger role than an all-sex movie,” Ryder said. “The guys were great too."
