Stoya to Showcase Directorial Debut at Queer Porn Film Festival

LOS ANGELES — Stoya told XBIZ Monday her directorial debut “Graphic Depictions” would be showcased at the first Queer Porn Film Festival on April 19 in New York.

She said a special screening of the first episode from “Graphic Depictions” starring Jiz Lee and Lily LaBeau would be presented at the one-day festival at The Spectrum in Brooklyn.

“That is the first sexually explicit thing that I have directed and funded entirely myself,” Stoya said from her home in New York.

The Lee-LaBeau scene is already online at TrenchcoatX.com, the pay-per-scene platform that Stoya launched earlier this month with Kayden Kross that is a curated collection of episodic, explicit videos. The new site provided an ideal venue for Stoya to unveil "Graphic Depictions."

“Part of TrenchcoatX happening was because of ‘Graphic Depictions’,” she said.

Stoya explained that after closely examining the standard distribution models in porn she decided she wanted to retain control of how her first project as a producer/director was introduced and framed.

“I didn’t put this much work into it to have it be mislabeled,” Stoya said, noting the debut episode features a gender neutral performer in Lee co-starring with LaBeau.

She revealed the second episode from “Graphic Depictions” is “literally full of cock” and will go live this Thursday on TrenchcoatX. It features Stoya with Seth Gamble and James Deen and was produced “partially as a commentary about the hetero-typical or straight-porn obssession with semen as the end point of everything as a goal,” the director said.

Dana Vespoli, the profilic performer/director who featured Stoya in her latest edition of "Fluid," appears in a future episode of "Graphic Depictions," Stoya added.

Organizers of the Queen Porn Film Festival say the event will be “a space to submerge yourself into art, sex, politics, queer life, queer luv, and queer lust.” The festival’s values center on “trans-feminism, accessibility, intentionality, and community-based social justice.”

Stoya said she is showcasing the first episode of her film there after accepting an invitation from queer porn filmmaker Courtney Trouble.

“Courtney asked, and I think Courtney is great and that whole group does really aweseome, interesting things,” Stoya said. She’ll also speak on a performer panel that has yet to be finalized. “Some of the stuff they have is going to be really freaking cool.”

Stoya said TrenchcoatX provides her with the freedom to create without being bound by conventional methods.

“Things can be ongoing or open-ended,” Stoya explained. “Say a project only really requires two scenes or episodes of whatever it is. Then it only has to have two.”

At the same time if a series is continuing to mine new territory after 30 episodes, that's fine too.

“There is no pressure with this,” she said. “It gives us more flexibilty to be creative.

“... The first iteration of 'Graphic Depictions' has five episodes and there are casual plans to do a second group of episodes, whether that would be three or six or whatever depends. I’m not going to say something that would limit me creatively.”

Still, Stoya said to arrive at this point eight years after begining her adult entertainment career is a gratifying moment.

“It’s so incredibly exciting,” she said, pointing to directors such as Joone and Robby D. as filmmakers who have inspired her.

“They actually planted some of the seeds for what I’m doing now. I did manage to pick up a bunch of stuff just paying attention to the two of them.

"I largely loved my time working with Robby under Joone and Samantha [Lewis at Digital Playground]. But being in charge of things and being able to say this is what I want to create and then making that happen, and actually largely the act of making that happen — even the work of it — those things are incredible for me and I’m enjoying it so much.”
