LOS ANGELES — Rapper Iggy Azalea is being threatened by the hacker super-organization Anonymous because of some ill-advised comments she made in response to criticism from similarly-named rapper Azealia Banks.
The group, using the now-suspended Twitter handle @TheAnonMessage, threatened to release stills from Azalea’s alleged sex tape unless she apologizes for the Twitter missive she launched at Banks over the weekend.
After Banks blasted Azalea in an interview on Hot97 for appropriating black culture and for allegedly not caring about the issues that affect black people, the latter lashed back on Twitter, calling Banks a “bigot” and a “miserable, angry human being.”
All of this led the Anonymous group to side with Banks, calling Azalea a “trashy bitch” for her comments and for her insensitivity to the Eric Garner protesters in New York City. The group then gave Azalea an ultimatum: 48 hours to apologize or they would release images from her rumored sex tape.
While the group states it will not actually release the sex tape, having no interest in sharing the salacious video of the possibly underage rapper, it reports that it will prove it has possession of the video by sharing images of her face in the midst of salacious behavior.
This isn’t the first time that Anonymous has threatened Azalea. They also claimed they would shut down her free show at USC earlier this month, but the show ended up going on.
