Randazza Attends WIPO Domain Name Institute

LAS VEGAS — Adult entertainment industry attorney Marc Randazza recently attended an intensive workshop on domain name disputes in Geneva, Switzerland.

The World Intellectual Property Organization hosted the workshop for domain name panelists and attorneys from all over the world.

Randazza said that he attended the workshop as continuing education on international intellectual property issues, which his firm focuses on.

“Last year, I got an advanced law degree in Italy, under WIPO’s auspices,” he said. “That established a number of European, Asian, and South American legal connections for me, and I have been spending more time focusing on clients and developments globally than ever before.”

The "WIPO Advanced Workshop on Domain Name Dispute Resolution: Update On Precedent and Practice," held from Dec. 4-5, featured presentations from several prolific UDRP panelists who have seen many different species of cybersquatters, and innocent domain name registrants, from around the world.  The workshop covered current trends in UDRP jurisprudence, and the panelists shared some secrets as to what they look for when deciding cases under the UDRP.

“We do a lot of domain name cases,” Randazza said. “Despite that fact, you can never hone your skills too sharply. I like making sure that I keep up to date on my areas of legal expertise.”

An additional benefit of attending the workshop was being able to interact with WIPO staff.

“When we got there, I was surprised at the fact that many of the attendees and staff knew who Randazza Legal Group was," he said."They referred to us as ‘the porn guys.’ But, in addition to that badge of honor, they also said that we produced very high quality work when compared to many other law firms.”

Randazza Legal Group has offices in Las Vegas, Miami, Philadelphia and San Francisco, all specializing in international intellectual property, First Amendment and Internet law.
