BALTIMORE, Md. — The Komar Company announced its 31st Annual Green Valley North Turkey Trot run and family event to benefit Crohn’s and Colitis Research to take place on Thanksgiving morning.
Komar said the event has become a Baltimore tradition put on by its staff and includes charity auctions, celebrity guests, kids' entertainment, T-shirts, a canned food drive, and door prizes all culminating around the main event, a five-mile run and three-mile walk.
The event began more than 30 years ago when its founder Mort Hyatt was diagnosed with Crohns Disease. The first Trot raised only $300 for the charity, but in 2013 more than 1,500 participants helped raise more than $46,000, 100 percent of which was donated to Johns Hopkins Hospital and University of Maryland Medical System to aid in their search for a cure.
Event creator and Komar President Morton Hyatt said that to date the event has raised more than $950,000 for the cause.
