BERKELEY, Calif. — NuReality Productions has launched a crowdfunding campaign for its documentary film, "Ruminations," about Rumi Missabu (aka James Bartlett), an original member of the gender-bending "Cockettes."
Missabu rose to prominence as a performance artist before retreating into obscurity for nearly 40 years. As a young adult, the perfromer moved to the Bay Area from Hollywood and quickly found a home amid the rising tide of artists and self expression during the sexual revolution.
The film is set for a summer 2015 release and follows Missabu ruminating about his encounters with everyone from Tina Turner to Allen Ginsberg.
