WARRENDALE, Penn. — The Kernel, the Daily Dot’s digital Sunday magazine, published a first-person piece by adult performer Siri.
Her essay, “Here’s Why You Need to Pay for Your Porn,” discusses the hardships the adult industry faces as a result of digital piracy.
Siri explains how she is personally affected by piracy daily and outlines how detrimental it can be to the industry as a whole.
“In my two and a half years in the adult film industry, I have learned that most people who watch porn online don’t pay for it,” she writes. “It costs me anywhere from $700 to a $1,000 dollars in out-of-pocket expenses and time investment to create a single scene to distribute on my website.”
She further explained the conundrum, “I have to maintain a certain number of website members to generate enough income to continue producing filmed entertainment and provide value to their membership (or risk losing them).”
The piece was published as part of The Kernel's NSFW Issue, which also includes a feature on gay performer and artist Colby Keller, as well as Sydney Leather's piece, "Me IRL," about her persona beyond Anthony Weiner's sexting partner.
