MONTREAL — Gay romance studio Icon Male’s first feature, “Football Hero” has been released on DVD from Mile High Media and director Nica Noelle.
The producers said the film tackles the gay stigma in football, as Ty Roderick comes out to fellow teammates, igniting controversy and awaking secret desires. The cast also includes Jamie Sanders, Brandon Wilde, Alexander Greene, Trenton Ducati and Aiden Summers.
“Obviously, the Michael Sam story partially inspired this movie,” Noelle said. “The idea of a rising football star coming out as a gay man, and risking public scorn and discrimination in order to take pride in his sexuality is very intriguing to me. I chose Ty Roderick as the lead because he has a vulnerable quality that was perfect for the role. Ty has a natural complexity and depth, so I knew he wouldn't turn the role into a joke.”
Christian X costars in a non-sex role as the no nonsense football coach.
Noelle said, “I asked Christian X to play the football coach because he was one of the first 'crossover' performers to proudly claim the ambiguities in his sexuality at a time when the industry was far less open minded. Christian was a trailblazer in our industry, just as Michael Sam is a trailblazer in the NFL. I challenge anyone to watch this movie and not see the beauty and passion in all-male sex scenes.”
