“We adore Margaret Cho, and part of the reason why is that she’s a San Francisco native,” Good Vibrations account coordinator Rena Ramirez said. “She really understands the idea of sex positivity, and she’s also very outspoken. We’re hoping she will penetrate the pop cultural side of the sex industry.”
Ramirez said that Cho’s sense of humor also was an important reason for her invitation to sit on the board. Cho made a lasting impression at the board of directors’ introduction party when she remarked, “I am joining Good Vibrations just in time, because my Hitachi [vibrator] has fallen into two pieces after 15 years.”
Cho, a well-known performer and an outspoken equal rights activist, will be closely involved with the development and growth plans of Good Vibrations, the company announced. She will contribute decisions on matters like future store locations and choice of merchandise offered, according to Ramirez.
“She is a very big fan of the company, so she already brings a lot of enthusiasm,” Ramirez said. “Good Vibrations is a tightly knit community and we didn’t want to bring on just any celebrity. We wanted to make sure we got someone who stands by our mission statement, and who understood what the company was about.”
Good Vibrations also added Donna Daniels, who has a Ph.D. in consumer analysis and who worked for the research analyst firm Iconoculture, to the board of directors. She and Cho join Carol Queen, Theresa Sparks, Adrienne Haddad and Linda Shaw on the board.
