Steven Hirsch, Vivid’s CEO and co-founder, told XBIZ that the hi-def movie is expected to be released during the first quarter of 2007.
“We are very interested [in hi-def DVDs],” Hirsch told Home Media Retailing magazine. “While adult is always looked at as the new driver in technology, at some point it has to be affordable.”
Hirsch referred to the high cost involved in shooting the dueling hi-def formats, Blue-Ray and HD-DVD, whose replication costs are 10 times that of standard DVD.
“They [Blue-Ray and HD-DVD] are not there yet,” he said, “although we are willing to take a chance because we feel the market will be very soon.
