NEW YORK — Erotica author and sex columnist Rachel Kramer Bussel has penned an article for Salon.com discussing how far male sex toys have come, as well as men’s increasing openness in exploring their use.
Reflecting on a poker-table conversation featured in the premiere of “Louie,” an FX Network cable show starring comedian Louie C.K. in which masturbation with the aid of a vibrator is discussed, Kramer describes some of the latest and greatest developments in male pleasure products such as the newly introduced “guybrator” Pulse, Aneros prostate massagers, Tenga masturbators and, of course Fleshlight and its gay male-oriented Fleshjack line.
Adam Lewis launched the Pulse based on his pleasurable experiences in stimulating the frenulum of his penis, which according to the article he discovered at age 10 by accident in his grandparents’ swimming pool.
“I didn’t think any other guy would be interested in it because nothing like it existed,” he told Bussell of the Pulse, which has reached approximately 10,000 units sold in the six months that it’s been on the market.
Bussell also interviews two male sex toy reviewers — Will of Mr. Will’s House of Thrills and Guy of He’s Naked —whose initial sex toy experiences inspired the launch of their blogs. Despite a first-time bad experience, 25-year-old, Texas-based Will decided to continue exploring sex toys, and now has a list of favorites. Meanwhile 22-year-old Guy from Norway was inspired to help people discover quality sex toys through his reviews following a satisfying first time with his Fleshjack Ice.
Though at one point questioning whether investing “ridiculous amount of money to just jack off” was worth it, Guy now acknowledges the benefits of a masturbator, likening it to “getting super human stroking power.”
Similarly, Aneros CEO Chris Schenk discusses the “Super-O” — a term coined by an Aneros user describing the sensation of prostate or “male G-spot” stimulation. According to Schenk, it “is often described as a series of smaller orgasms that build into a large and extremely intense full-body orgasm or series of orgasms.”
Babeland cofounder Claire Cavanah says men’s taste in sex toys is evolving toward more creative, technology-driven designs, such as that of the Tenga Flip —“ its engineering and technology give it cachet, and it doesn’t hurt that it would look right at home next to your iPhone.”
