NEW YORK — ABC News' Nightline will be airing a segment “The Effects of Piracy on Adult Entertainment” tonight at 12:35 a.m. EST.
The piece focuses primarily on Tasha Reign, but also includes interviews with Takedown Piracy owner Nate Glass, Wicked Pictures contract performer and director Jessica Drake, Girlfriends Films president Moose and founder Dan O'Connell, LA Direct Models owner Derek Hay and other industry honchos.
Glass and Drake have recently teamed up for a college lecture tour to raise awareness about porn piracy's detrimental effects on the adult industry and discourage the practice amongst younger consumers.
The duo have gathered attention from mainstream media sources while in transit, perhaps because of the reputability of the universities on their tour roster. Last month, Glass and Drake spoke at University of Chicago and will head to USC for a talk on April 30.
While some sites responded somewhat incredulously to their mission — publishing interviews with titles like “These Two Are Seriously Trying to Get College Bros to Pay For Porn” — Glass and Drake maintain young folks can be dissuaded from piracy by personalizing the cause (particularly through the first-hand accounts of Drake and other performers).
“We try to make it a very personal thing," Drake told tech site BetaBeat. "It’s a fine line — you don’t want to shame anybody [and say], ‘You’re doing this wrong, we hate you.’ I just try to give a more personal viewpoint, make them understand my side of it, because the majority of them are my fans!”
