Playboy Extends DirecTV Deal

LOS ANGELES — Playboy Enterprises has extended its relationship with DirecTV by agreeing to continue supplying pay-per-view content for the next two years.

With the deal, DirecTV gets non-exclusive rights to transmit Playboy's Playboy TV, Spice:Xcess and ClubJenna networks, company spokesman Matt Kalinowski told XBIZ.

“I think our [pay-per-view] channels have great consumer recognition, and I think DirecTV sees them as valuable to their satellite lineup,” Kalinowski said.

Playboy already provides DirecTV with Playboy TV and two other channels through an existing agreement with DirecTV. Kalinowski said he expects transmission of the new networks to begin Nov. 16.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Playboy in an Securities and Exchange Commission filing said its sales will reflect its share of revenue received from DirecTV customers who purchase the right to view the network's programming, subject to DirecTV receiving certain minimum revenue amounts from networks other than Playboy TV.

Kalinowski also said that the ClubJenna channel is preparing to begin its live broadcast in the first week of December.

“Right now, we’re working on lots of concepts for the show,” Kalinowski said.
