NEW YORK — Playboy, one of the most recognized and popular consumer brands in the world, was started by just one man — Hugh Hefner.
The Playboy founder, celebrating his 88th birthday today, looked back at his life as publisher, activist and admirer of women in "CBS This Morning's" Emmy-nominated series "Note to Self."
Founded by Hefner in 1953, Playboy magazine has become a tastemaker, an arbiter of style and a vanguard for political, sexual and economic freedom for the past 60 years.
His company, Playboy Enterprises Inc., publishes the magazine in the U.S. and abroad and creates content for distribution via TV networks, websites and mobile platforms.
Through licensing agreements, the Playboy brand appears on a wide range of consumer products in more than 150 countries as well as retail stores and entertainment venues.
