NEW YORK — Babeland in Park Slope is amping up its “sextual” appeal, kicking off the first installation of its erotic-themed “Books in Babeland” literary series today at 7 p.m. EST.
Helming the series is local mother Louise Crawford, who says she loves “the idea of literary events in unlikely places.”
“There’s so much great writing about sexuality, sensuality and intimacy, so it just seems like a fun place and a fun idea,” added Crawford, the event’s curator and former Brookyln Paper columnist.
Tonight’s roster features several notable local authors, including NYU lecturer Nicole Callihan, who recently authored the poetry book “SuperLoop.” Diana Raab, author of the poetry anthology “Lust,” will also be in attendance.
“Every poem [in ‘Lust’] is extremely sensual and very honest and brave about the experience of wanting love and joy,” Crawford told the BrooklynPaper.
The next installation of the “Books in Babeland” series, titled “Sexy Edgy Moms,” is slated for May. BrooklynPaper describes the next event, “It will focus on poetry, memoir and fiction that revolves around motherhood and sensuality.”
Plans for an open-mic are underway.
Babeland NYC is located on 462 Bergen St. in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call Babeland at (718) 638-3820.
