LONDON — U.K.-based Harmony Films announced today its first feature parody, “Down on Abby,” spoofing the popular British PBS TV series.
Directed by Gazzman, the film is set for an April 1 release.
“As ‘Down on Abby’ is our first foray into the world of adult parody and with Harmony being a British studio, it was no brainer that our first offering would be with something that is quintessentially British,” James Wright, vice president of sales and marketing, said.
The film is set at the beautiful Bottomley Manor, home to the eccentric and debauched Lord and Lady Grabhem and their stepdaughters Abby and Fanny. Like the TV series, the movie follows the upper class family upstairs and members of the working class staff downstairs including characters with names such as Master Bates as they prepare for a dinner party quite unlike any other.
Described as a “cheeky and creative film” by the producers, the cast includes Ben Dover, Lexi Lowe, Jasmine Jae, Ava Dalush,Clarke Kent and Tony De Sergio.
The producers noted that the original British drama series by a similar name has attracted nearly 24 million viewers at its peak thanks to its strong and growing fan base worldwide including some high profile celebrities.
Harmony believes the popularity of the original will contribute to the success of its spoof that it said is currently is receiving positive pre-release interest from various adult TV networks from around the world.
