LOS ANGELES — Former porn star Sasha Grey is returning to the silver screen alongside Hollywood A-lister Elijah Wood in the upcoming cyber-thriller, “Open Windows,” that reportedly takes place primarily on a computer screen.
Nacho Vigalondo directs Wood as Nick Chambers, who plays a webmaster obsessed with a famous actress, Jill Goddard (Sasha Grey). Chambers believes he has won a contest to meet Goddard, until a strange man posing as her manager tells him that the contest was cancelled — but offers unlimited access to the star via extensive hidden surveillance cameras. The trailer shows glimpses of the ensuing psychodrama, in which Chambers is drawn into the impostor’s plot to hunt down Goddard.
Hearkening (to some degree) the spirit of “The Canyons,” “Open Windows” explores the allure — and dangers — of the technological age, especially with regard to privacy and the rickety security inherent to the Internet. Spanish-born Vigalondo has established himself as a horror/thriller familiar with his previous films “The ABCs of Death,” “Extraterrestrial” and “Timecrimes.”
Since her departure from the adult industry in 2011, Grey has landed several high-profile mainstream acting roles, including the lead of Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience” and a stint on the seventh season of the hit HBO series “Entourage,” where she plays a semi-fictionalized version of herself.
Grey has most recently been promoting her premiere erotic novel "The Juliette Society," for which 20th Century Fox has already procured the film rights.
“Open Windows” is projected to release in theatres and on video-on-demand in 2014.
