LOS ANGELES — Adult-oriented sociologist Dr. Chauntelle Anne Tibbals has announced the release of the first volume of her book series “You Study What? One Sociologist's Journey through Sex, Society and Adult Entertainment.”
Each installment of the “You Study What?” series is based on Tibbals’ scholarly work in, and around, the adult industry. Through her informal nonfiction tales, Tibbals shares her personal experiences, providing what she says “is a window into a world that’s shrouded in mystery … but is ultimately no different from any other.”
“I’ve had some fun adventures and have seen some pretty interesting things over the years,” Tibbals said. “But a lot gets lost when you’re translating everyday observations into scholar-speak. I’m excited to share some of the more personal experiences that have informed my academic work.”
The debut volume of “You Study What?” features five stories: “Working the Booth” details the author’s first time at an adult industry convention; “Looking for This Particular Movie,” is about her first time in a sex shop; and “Pegging — The Oldest New Trick in the Book” reflects on changing trends in adult content. Volume 1 also includes “The Thin Line Between Real and Fake” and “Average Joes and the Monster Cock.”
“I couldn’t be more thrilled by the responses “You Study What?” has already received,” Tibbals said. “I’ve always felt like people would be interested in this sort of perspective on the adult industry and I’m excited to provide it.”
