PASADENA, Calif. — Pasadena City College Professor Hugo Schwyzer said he will no longer teach his “Navigating Pornography” class due to overwhelming stress from the backlash it received.
Known widely as the “porn professor,” Shwyzer announced that he was forced into psychological rehab because of criticism from members of the college and anger directed at him online regarding the class.
"I'm exhausted by threats and controversy," Schwyzer told the Daily Bulletin. "I need a break."
Schwyzer’s porn course made headlines in February when college officials barred the public from attending a lecture by adult crossover star James Deen. Deen had once been a student at PCC.
Robert Bell, assistant superintendent of Academic and Student Affairs said at the time that the college supported Schwyzer’s “academic freedom within the classroom but needed to insure “public safety” by following the school's protocol.
Following the lecture debacle, Schwyzer was vocal about harassment he received through telephone calls and emails.
