LOS ANGELES — Jessie Andrews told Vice she is a “very busy person” in a recent interview. Besides shooting porn, making jewelry, attending weekly dodge ball meetups and modeling, the ex-American Apparel darling is now about to drop an EP on Ultra Records.
“I just signed a contract, so I guess I'm allowed to talk about it,” she said.
Andrews’ remix of Duke Dumont’s “Need U” piqued Vice writer Ben Shapiro’s interest.
“I decided to call her up and talk to her, partially because I've never knowingly spoken to a porn star before, and partially because the remix is very, very good, and partially because I'd like people to understand that being in porn doesn't just make you a braindead dick receptacle,” Shapiro wrote in the preface to the Q&A.
The 21-year-old jackie-of-all-trades said that she enjoyed growing up with house music in Miami and has found that L.A. is lacking in a comparable scene. Somewhere between those two thoughts, she decided to create house music of her own.
After becoming acquainted with Dumont, first online and then in London, she asked him is she could remix the song and he agreed.
Andrews addressed the fact that her porn credentials will influence the way some people perceive her and her mainstream work but remains disaffected and confident.
“Some people are going to go say ‘Oh, she’s a porn star. She's going to make shit.’ That's what people thought about my jewelry company, and I think that's what is going to happen with my music. But I don't care, personally,” Andrews said, and added that her EP will be released “soon.”
This is not the mainstream world’s first nod to Andrews’ nonporn endeavors: Last month Andrews was named a “fascinating Angeleno” in LA Weekly’s "People 2013" issue.
In 2012, Andrews won the XBIZ Best New Starlet and Best Actress awards. She now performs only girl/girl scenes.
